so here's some concept art for a sky whale. they're mainly inspired by humpback whales, and the music video for Pstereo by Emilie Nicolas :D

Sky whales are massive flying creatures that soar throughout the planet's atmosphere, growing to about 12–16 m (39–52 ft) long and living to about 45-50 years old. They are relatively harmless and docile, though there have been cases of them purposely ramming into sky ships whose crew decided to harass the whales (they dont bother you if you dont bother them). But for the most part, they will let a ship go near them as long as they aren't a bother. The sky whales stay afloat thinks to these bags of helium inside of their bodies. They continuously produce this helium, and so it gets vented out through the vent holes on the top of their bodies (though it gets mixed with other body matter, hence why it's more visible to the naked eye). Their large fins help them glide, move, and turn around in the air. They much prefer to stay up higher in the atmosphere where the sky ships and cities are, as the lower you go, the more creatures there are (including more of the vicious predators). Sky whales are truly a sight to behold. Sailors and sky pirates alike both respect the creatures enough to simply enjoy them whenever they show up. Their low humming songs and massive appearance providing a nice break from the sometimes lonely nature of the skies. Sometimes they get very close to the sky cities, passing through some of their bays and right next to the city ports and coasts, providing a wonderful little experience for the younger generations of people that happen to be in those areas of the cities. There are tales, stories, and rumors of a leviathan-sized sky whale queen that is potentially hundreds of years old, and is as big as a mountain. But no one has ever captured definitive proof of a leviathan whale queen before...
