I had actually wanted to do a critique of this long before I did that critique on your recent DMC twilight, but eh, I hadn't worked up the courage to do so. Now, on to the art itself. First thing's first: Luna is my favorite, so kudos to you. Originality and impact both get 5 stars because I prefer to see luna as a "good" pony, and yet here you are portraying her as a not-so good pony, and begging us to consider her in such a light. However, at the same time, we see her caring for her snake...thing. (Ah heck, why don't we call it a basilisk?) There's a definite duality there, displaying both sides of the same coin, to speak metaphorically. Plus, you used your own background, which you seldom do for these. Vision, rather paradoxically, takes a hit for the very same reasons. I can see the possibility of Luna herself becoming evil/malevolent, but I'm sure others would think she would turn back into NMM if that were the case.
Technique takes a minor blow for only one reason. the markings on the columns and on her throne mystify me. If they're cracks, then I am afraid they look more like scratches. And, if they are scratches, where is the beast that made them? The basilisk, fearsome as it is, doesn't seem capable of creating them. I apologize if that seems a bit nitpicky, but (to me), the elements of the artwork should be linked to each other. (which, you did a fantastic job of linking luna with the basilisk.)
D'awh... why'd you clean it up so much? One of the things that kind of sets you apart from the rest in style is the way you do color over pen sketching. Pristine, regardless (I love your work and am a little jealous, to be quite frank) but I would have left it rough with the pen strikes. Great job :3
Ah! My apologies, it just struck me as a bit odd when comparing to the rest of your work. Which reminds me... You interested in a collab? I've done my share of pen work and I think I can match it up to yours in pony style.
Hmm... I just finished with Chroma's collab. Wanna just think of something witty with both our characters and see how it goes? Both of us bring forth an idea, and we see how we make it work.
*works on sketches* I think that from watching your oc's pictures, I get a pretty good idea as to personality and I KNOW how Chiara would react in a bar. So I'll show you what my ideas. I'd like to see a simple sketch of yours as well . Oi, it's been rather busy as of late; I'm preparing artwork to submit to my local museum's steampunk show. So I'll show you as soon as possible :3
